Some go-to bugs for hoppers...lots of the real thing kicking around Southern Alberta. And we've been getting eats on the fake ones on the Bow the last number of days.

Bow River Report - July 16

Bow River Report – July 16, 2015

Finally! A rain day. Today and tomorrow are supposed to be somewhat icky, but things turn for Saturday. This is just what the doctor ordered for the river.

Fishing the last 3 days has been better, with the streamer fishing being very good. A lot more dry fly eats on the big bugs and even late day rising fish last night and the night before. The Tricos are as heavy as we have ever seen and the Caddis are still around in good numbers.

The rain tomorrow may give us a little push of color, but it should push through and offer fishable conditions through the weekend. Hopefully this gives us a reasonable drop in water temps to get us through another week.

We recommend that anglers play fish as quickly as possible, not taking the fish out of the water. Until the water cools down, please skip that fish photo and get them back on their way.

Hatches: Caddis, Tricos, Golden Stoneflies

Fishing Report - July 13

Bow River Report – July 13, 2015

Mother Nature helped out a little over the last couple of days, providing some rainfall that will cool things down a little. Cooler weather forecast for this week will be a big help as well.
Water temperatures in the shallow water along the banks has been pretty warm, so you’re not going to find many fish in those structures.
Mid-river structures, bars, and riffles are your best bet.
Still getting a decent number of eats on the Stonefly patterns (foam), but you have to work at it and focus on heavier flow areas like heavy seams, bars, and riffles.
The rising fish thing has been pretty tough in the last number of days. Lot of bugs, no snouts. That may come around with this cooler weather,
Streamer fishing has been good all this last week. Yesterday’s cloudy day provided a really good streamer day.

We recommend that anglers play fish as quickly as possible, not taking the fish out of the water. Until things cool down a little please skip that fish photo and get them back on their way.

Hatches: Golden Stoneflies, Caddis, Tricos

Dry Flies: Chubby Chernobyl-Orange, Jake’s Hi-Vis Caddis,
                Hippie Stomper-Red #16.

               Tiger Worm-Tan, Super Pupa-Olive

Streamers: Grand Master Flash-Tan, ¼ Pound Bugger-Olive #6,

First day fly fishing, first fish.

Crowsnest River Report – July 13, 2015

Fishing still great on the Crow. A little slower during mid-day when it’s really hot but otherwise pretty darn good.

We recommend that anglers play fish as quickly as possible, not taking the fish out of the water. Until things cool down a little please skip that fish photo and get them back on their way.

Low, clear, and fishing good pretty much sum up everything from the Bow Valley south to the Montana border right now.
Some really good Bull Trout fishing in a couple of the streams in the last couple weeks.

If you are going to the high country, it’s REALLY dry up there. Please take every precaution to prevent fire. Including where you park your vehicle!

We recommend that anglers play fish as quickly as possible, not taking the fish out of the water. Until things cool down a little please skip that fish photo and get them back on their way.

Bow River Update-July 9

Bow River Report – July 9, 2015

Updated conditions on the Bow…as of yesterday afternoon we are back up to an average of 69 Fahrenheit water temperature. These were recorded in mid-river flows. Along the banks and in slower water the temperatures are higher.
Continued hot weather through until Sunday won’t help things very much.

We recommend that anglers play fish as quickly as possible, not taking the fish out of the water. Until things cool down a little you might also want to skip that fish photo and get them back on their way.

Moving on from the negative, fishing has been a little better the last couple of days. Not a lot of rising fish, except very late in the evening. Streamer fishing has been the high point a lot of the time, with light colored and flashy streamers working best.

Hatches: Golden Stoneflies, Caddis, PMD’s, Tricos

Dry Flies: Chubby Chernobyl-Orange, Jake’s Hi-Vis Caddis,
                Silverman’s Stacker Cripple-PMD.

Nymphs: Jimmy Legs-Green/Black, Tung Dart, Rubberleg Hares Ear,
               Tiger Worm-Tan, Super Pupa-Olive

Streamers: Grand Master Flash-Tan, ¼ Pound Bugger-Olive #6,
                   Bloom;s Sculpin Bugger, Wooly Bugger-Olive #6
