Fishing Reports - September 24

Bow River Report –September 24, 2014

The last week was a little devoid of insect hatches on a number of days, offering a lot less dry fly fishing. The last couple of days there have been more bugs, but more importantly, a bunch more rising fish. This weekend’s weather should bring on a lot more BWO mayflies.

Water Boatman numbers are way up in the last week, especially below McKinnon’s.

McKinnons Flats access is currently closed for road repairs. It is expected to re-open at the end of this week.

Hatches: Caddis, Pseudos (tiny little BWO), Baetis (saner size of BWO), Water Boatman

Crowsnest River Report – September 24, 2014
The Crowsnest is down to a very usual 4 cms and clear. Typical September technical fishing is on the menu for anglers who enjoy that.

Some cool fishing is available in the slower runs and tailouts at this time of year with Boatmen patterns, either fished blind or to sighted fish.

Hatches: BWO’s, Caddis, Ants, Beetles, Water Boatmen.

Streamers: Bead Crystal Bugger, Crystal Bugger-Olive, Kiwi Muddler
Nymphs: B/H R/L Hares Ear, B/H Pheasant Tail, Copper John, Peacock Boatman.
Dries: R/L Neversink Caddis, JC Special, Ants, Beetles, Parachute Adams

High Country River Report – September 24, 2014

A lot of the high country streams are still running a little high but have at least cleared up. Streams like Racehorse are fairly low, where the Oldman and Livingstone are still a little high. The cooler water from snowmelt hasn’t helped the dry fly fishing a bunch but there is still some decent fall fishing to be had.

Hatches: Caddis, BWO’s, Ants, Beetles.

Streamers: Sleech-Olive, Silveys Sculpin Leech-Tan, Party Boy-Pink, Circus Peanut-White
Nymphs: B/H R/L Hares Ear, B/H Pheasant Tail, Copper John
