Fishing Reports - October 8

Bow River Report –October 8, 2014

With the Thanksgiving weekend approaching, the weatherman has given us a pretty good gift if he’s right. Fishing has been pretty decent. Not as many rising fish as we would like to see but there’s a few out there. Tons of Boatmen kicking around and the fishing on them has been pretty good for the most part.

Quite a few October Caddis kicking around, mostly towards Carseland and people have been getting the odd eat on top with them.

If you’re so inclined the deep rig San Juan Worm setups have been killing them of late. If you want to get tugged on (a lot) then this is for you.

Better get out there, the clock is winding down on nice weather.

Hatches: October Caddis, Pseudos (tiny little BWO), Baetis (saner size of BWO), Water Boatman

Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.
Nymphs: Heavy Metal Worm, Atomic Worm, Tung Stud, B/H R/L Hares Ear, Tung Dart, Copper John-Black, Peacock Water Boatman

Crowsnest River Report – October 8, 2014

The Crowsnest is down to a very usual 4 cms and clear. Typical September technical fishing is on the menu for anglers who enjoy that.

Some cool fishing is available in the slower runs and tailouts at this time of year with Boatmen patterns, either fished blind or to sighted fish.

High Country River Report – October 8, 2014

Most of the high country stuff has rebounded from the short burst of winter in September. Reports of decent dry fly fishing have been coming out of the hills. Not near as busy up there now either. Pretty soon it will be done for the season, get out there!

Nymphs: B/H R/L Hares Ear, B/H Pheasant Tail, Copper John
