Fishing Reports-Sh##ts Going Down Edition

Bow River Report –June 29, 2017

Looks like they turned the tap off…river level is down to 155 cms and visibility is about two feet. Visibility should get way clearer in the next week with lower levels.

Stoneflies are starting to get active, a few shucks showing up on the banks and the fish are most certainly keyed up on the nymphs.

Caddis hatches in the evenings have been heavy. PMD’s have been showing up as well.

As we would expect, with a decent amount of water for the first time since 2014, streamer fishing has been quite good, with some really nice fish caught this past week.

Now that levels are a tad lower we should see more rising fish on the smaller bugs and the big bugs should get going on top as well.

Hatches:  Caddis, Stoneflies, PMD’s

Dry Flies:  Chubby Chernobyl-Black/Tan #10, Berrett’s Brown Leg Golden Stone,
CDC Caddis #16, Wilcox AC Caddis, B-Body Parachute-PMD.

Nymphs:   Rock ‘n’ Roller Stone, Sexy Stone, Atomic Worm

Streamers:  Skiddish Smolt-Black, Marabou Clouser-Black,
                   Silvey’s Sculpin Leech-Blk/Olv/White

Crowsnest River Report – June 29, 2017

PERFECTION! That’s what the Crow is right now. Just under 9 cms flows, combined with the bug activity over the next few weeks make for some pretty cool fishing.

Dries, nymphs, streamers, they’ll all work right now.

Hatches:  Golden Stones, PMD’s, Caddis

Dries: Berrett’s Golden Stone, Turner’s Bank Robber, Neversink Caddis-Blk,
          CDC Hackle Stacker-PMD

Nymphs:  Rock ‘n’ Roller Stone, Sexy Stone, Chubby Cousin

Streamers: Stroll’s Ice Pick-Tan/Pearl, Medusa-Black/Pink

High Country River Report – June 29, 2017

Everything in the high country is in surprisingly great shape. Everything is certainly fishable and fishing hes been pretty decent. Over the next while, every day will get better as water temps come up.

Hatches:  Stoneflies, Caddis

Dries: Berrett’s Golden Stone, Elk Hair Caddis #14, Turner’s Bank Robber

Nymphs:   Rock “N’ Roller Stone, Sexy Stone, Chubby Cousin.

Fishing Reports - June 22

Bow River Report –June 22, 2017

Things have changed pretty significantly in the last week. As of this morning, flow levels on the Bow at Calgary are down to 219 CMS and the water clarity is very fishable.

Some of those early season, high, colored water, really big Brown Trout have been caught this week. And continuing the theme of the last year or so, really big Rainbows as well. This is the best time of the year to catch that big slab of a fish on the river!

Bigger, dark streamers are working well on sink tips. Stonefly nymphs fished deep are also the ticket right now.

Hatches: Caddis,   *Stoneflies soon!!!*

Dry Flies:  Blond Elk Hair Caddis #14, Chubby Chernobyl Black/Tan #6,
                 Berrett’s Brown Leg Golden Stone

Nymphs:   Atomic Worm, Tiger Worm-Red, Conestone #6
Rock ‘n’ Roller Stone, Smethurst’s Stone Bomb,

Streamers:  Moal-Purple, Kreelex Minnow #6, Egg Sucking Leech,
                   1/4lb Bugger, Ice Pick Streamer-Black, Medusa-Black/Blue

Crowsnest River Report – June 22, 2017

The Crow is already down to 13 CMS as of this morning. It will, without a doubt, fish very well in the next few weeks barring any goofy rainfall or something.

Fish are still very imprinted on Stoneflies, so a big dry is not a bad idea. Golden Stones should start right away.

Beauvais, Lee’s and Police Outpost all offer outstanding lake fishing in the area.  Summit Lake just over the border into B.C. is also good.

Hatches:  Salmonflies, Caddis

Dries: E/C Caddis, Chubby Chernobyl, X-Body Parachute-PMD,
Floater In The Pool - Golden

Nymphs:  Jimmy Legs, Rock ‘N’ Roller Stone, Pink Headed Stone,
                 Lexy’s Sexy Stone

Streamers: Nongzilla Sculpin, Circus Peanut-White,
                   Silvey’s Sculpin Leech-Blk/Olv/Wht

High Country River Report – June 22, 2017

Conditions in the high country are very fishable. Even the Sheep below Okotoks has cleared to the point of being fishable. The high country stuff is a little high and cool but quite clear.
So far, fishing has been pretty good up there considering it’s still June.

Hatches:  Stoneflies, Caddis

Dries: Neversink Caddis, Berrett’s Barred Leg-Golden Stone, Chubby Chernobyl

Nymphs:   Conestone, Rock “N’ Roller Stone, Jimmy Legs, B/H Prince Nymph

Streamers: Ice Pick-Natural/Silver, Circus Peanut-White,
                 Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olv/Blk/White
