Jim McLennan...Six String Gumbo

Long-time Alberta resident guitar picker, Jim McLennan, is releasing his first solo CD with a concert at Carlson's on Macleod in High River on Friday, March 18, 2011.  Titled “Six-String Gumbo,” the CD is exactly that - a smooth, yet surprising plateful of solo instrumental guitar pieces, served with a variety of pleasing musical spices.
Best-known for his profile in the world of fly fishing, where he is a respected author and instructor, McLennan has also been a serious musician for over 40 years.  Part of the acoustic music scene that flourished in Edmonton in the ‘70s and ‘80s, producing artists like Connie Kaldor, Roy Forbes, and Bill Bourne, McLennan was largely silent in terms of public musical performance for many years, until a chance meeting with Calgary acoustic-music stalwart Steve Fisher woke him from his slumber several years ago.
Since then he has become more active in music circles again, appearing on recordings or in public performance with Fisher, Cowboy Celtic, John Fraser, Paul Rumbolt, Denise Withnell, David Wilkie, Tom Cole, Tanya Ryan, Joe Cunningham, and his brother Hugh McLennan.
A preeminent fingerstyle guitarist, McLennan’s music runs from original compositions to arrangements of swing tunes, ragtime and blues.
