Product Review- Orvis Sonic Tailwaters Jacket

Here's what Orvis has to say:
An updated version of our popular TailwatersT jacket now featuring the same sonic welded technology and fabric as found on our Silver Sonic® waders. Seams are welded to ensure maximum waterproofness and durability. Full-featured jacket includes two water-resistant zippered, large fly box storage pockets and two fleece-lined, zippered water-resistant handwarmer pockets. One interior zippered pocket for added storage of valuable items like keys, cameras, and phones. Full coverage hood is completely adjustable to offer great protection from wind, rain, and snow while not obstructing your vision. Dolphin Skin Cuff® system offers a watertight seal against water intrusion and a redesigned cuff adjuster lies flat to avoid fly-line tangles. Drawcord at hem. 100% nylon.

Here's what we have to say:
After playing around some with the new Sonic Tailwaters, we're pretty impressed with it. The features on this jacket are well though out. The vertical front pockets are suitable for big bug boxes, which Steelheaders should like, the zippered hand warming pockets are well positioned and comfortable with fleec lining, the cuffs stop water migration, and the hood adjusts well.
Although this jacket doesn't have some of the doo-dads found on the Simms G3 and G4 jackets, it is very functional. And coming in at $489, it's a lot more palatable than the almost $900 that a G4 is priced at.

I've worn a G4 for a long time (bought it when even the US retail was way more affordable) and I like it. But to replace it, I just can't justify the cost of a G4. I've also worn the top offering from Patagonia. The zipper completely failed on that product's third day of use. Not just a zipper that wouldn't work, but a zipper that came almost completely off the jacket. Considering I was fishing coastal rain forests (note the rain part) I was less than impressed.

Given the exceptional warranty coverage we see from Orvis, combined with the price tag, I think I'll be going with this jacket.
