After 35 Years We Would Like To Thank.......

Well, it is now official, we are 35 years old. We would like to take a second and thank some who made it possible for the shop to stick around this long. Some have been partners for a long time, some a short time, but you all are important to us.

Of course our oldest partner would be all of you, our customers. Some of you have been coming to the shop since 1982 and others are more recent, but all of you keep the wheels turning. We cannot say a big enough 
THANK YOU!

And also, kind of behind the scenes, are all of our supplier partners. Over the years we have enjoyed some great relationships with some great people, and had the privilege of offering some great products for our customers. People maybe don't realize it, but the products in our store are all used out on the water by shop staff. Every item (rod, reel, line, wader, boot, etc.) in our store is familiar to us. If a product isn't in here it's likely means it's not good enough. So, that speaks volumes in our minds, and should in yours as well, as to how great the products these companies are. Thanks to all of these great companies...you know who you are out there.

Big News From Simms

Pretty big news from Simms Fishing Products this week. Effective November 15, retail prices on a large number of Simms products, in particular their higher ticket items like waders, boots, and technical outerwear will be revised to a more competitive level.

To give an example, a Simms G4 Pro Jacket that was $849.95 CDN just a few months ago is now $ 649.95 CDN.

Effective November 15, all of our products in store, and on our online store, will reflect the new, lower retail prices.

Here's what we have to say:

Simms finally has a truly waterproof backpack that doesn't rely on a roll-top. This is a great design as far as features go for use out in the field. The zipper is the best waterproof design we know of out there and last, but not least, it's about $75 cheaper than the equivalent (almost) from Patagonia.
Great for a Steelheader's day pack, in the boat, or really good for rafts.

Simms Stone Cold and GT Tricomp Shirts

 Just unpacked a bunch of Simms Stone Cold and GT Tricomp shirts. Both styles are excellent, not only for around here, but they are excellent for the tropics. Very breathable, quick drying, and nice looking.

Support Your Local Fly Shop

You hear it a bunch, the phrase "support your local fly shop", with all of the reasons that go along with it.

We did some research comparing buying local and ordering online from places like orvis.com, big box retailers in the US, etc. We took a small cross section of popular items (rods, luggage, waders) from three manufacturers and compared our prices to what it would cost to order online. For the waders and Sage rods, we allowed for free shipping and no brokerage fees. However, you would get a brokerage charge upon delivery.

As a formula, we took the cost of the item, added their shipping/brokerage fees, and allowed for a 1.27 exchange rate to CDN on your credit card (in actuality, exchange today is around 1.28). Now keep in mind, these are products that our shop sells. We would expect other manufacturers to be similar.
