SKAGIT MASTER VOLUME 2 FEATURING SCOTT HOWELL
Filmed in BC and Oregon, Steelheading Outside the Box is the most insightful, technique focused steelhead film in over twenty years. There are no indicators or dead drifted nymphs in this film, just deeply sunk swinging flies jacked by Skagit Flight and Skagit Short shooting heads, wicked looking custom Intruders and water spitting popping bugs chugging behind the latest high tech Scandi heads; it’s steelheading Scott’s way. 120 min
EASTERN RISES
Felt Soul Media
Felt Soul partnered with The Fly Shop to document an epic fly fishing journey to Russia's remote Kamchatka Peninsula. Ben Knight and Travis Rummel continue to set the bar for filmmakers working in this genre. Ryan Peterson and Frank Smethurst get a thumbs up from El Pescador for their roles in the film. The rainbow trout, super kundzha char and bears (real and pretend) get a thumbs up too. 38 min.

Black Tailed Devils
Black Tailed Devils
A decade in the making, Black Tailed Devils is a one of a kind fly fishing movie; the first dedicated to capturing the pursuit of permit on film. The producters of Getting Guided and Into the Backing, the only company hardcore and hellbent enough to target this befuddling species full time, travel to the outer regions of the Florida Keys with tournament-winning guides and their clients to score never before seen footage of the flats’ most elusive fish. With an array of reel-searing runs, cursing anglers, pole-throwing guides, and a lifetime’s worth of tailing permit, Black Tailed Devils, like no film before it, captures the insanity and exhilieration of chasing permit on the fly.
Jim McLennan...Six String Gumbo
Long-time Alberta resident guitar picker, Jim McLennan, is releasing his first solo CD with a concert at Carlson's on Macleod in High River on Friday, March 18, 2011. Titled “Six-String Gumbo,” the CD is exactly that - a smooth, yet surprising plateful of solo instrumental guitar pieces, served with a variety of pleasing musical spices.
Best-known for his profile in the world of fly fishing, where he is a respected author and instructor, McLennan has also been a serious musician for over 40 years. Part of the acoustic music scene that flourished in Edmonton in the ‘70s and ‘80s, producing artists like Connie Kaldor, Roy Forbes, and Bill Bourne, McLennan was largely silent in terms of public musical performance for many years, until a chance meeting with Calgary acoustic-music stalwart Steve Fisher woke him from his slumber several years ago.
Since then he has become more active in music circles again, appearing on recordings or in public performance with Fisher, Cowboy Celtic, John Fraser, Paul Rumbolt, Denise Withnell, David Wilkie, Tom Cole, Tanya Ryan, Joe Cunningham, and his brother Hugh McLennan.
A preeminent fingerstyle guitarist, McLennan’s music runs from original compositions to arrangements of swing tunes, ragtime and blues.

Spring Steelhead Opportunities with Nicholas Dean Lodge
There's a few open dates for the Spring Steelhead Fishery at Nicholas Dean Lodge in Terrace BC.
This trip is a great introduction to some of the most aggressive spring fish in the world, as well as a perfect trip for the experienced angler. On the multitude of river's available , you'll swing large bugs for some of the largest steelhead of the year. Since these fish are of the same year class as of the 2010 run, this could be a run that we'll talk about for a very long time.
You'll also get to fish some of the coolest, most intimate coastal streams. Some of these rivers don't require a long cast or a huge mend, and can offer some of the largest fish of the year.
You'll stay at the Yellow Cedar Lodge, a spectacular facility located on the banks of the famed Skeena, just West of Terrace. Along with the gourmet cooking of Red Seal chef Alf Leslie, The lodge features a mixture of private single and double bedrooms, a bar and games room. It also includes a lounge, gym and cardio equipment room, sauna, hot tub, wrap around porch, and a large dining area and bar for sharing daily fishing stories! This is possibly the prettiest lodge in Northern BC.
Here are the available dates for this spring:
-- April 4 to 10
-- April 17 to 23
-- May 1 to 7
-- May 8 to 14
Please contact the shop at info@countrypleasures.com or (403)271-1016 for rates and booking information.
