Fishing Reports-July 28
Bow River Report –July 28, 2014
Fishing has slowed down a bit overall in the last week. The Stoneflies are tapering off and it’s not quite as user friendly with the big foam bugs.
Still getting a decent number of fish on the foam though, mostly on slightly smaller patterns.
Still some good Caddis fishing, mostly in the evenings. They have been a little weird, some places have great hatches and rising fish some nights and not others.
One bit of news, the San Juan Worm, which was almost impossible to catch fish on in 2013, seems to have made a comeback.
Streamer fishing has been good most of the time, and very good some of the time.
With more stable flows, this week should fish better on the river. And we should be pretty close to Trico fishing.
McKinnon`s road and launch area are open. Having said that, we ask that people think twice about using McKinnon’s when we see heavy rainfall. The road will not support rain and vehicles in its present state. Carseland is now open for public use, a nice surprise. Lower city launches and Policeman’s launches open.
Be careful taking out at Policeman’s!

Bow River Report –July 21, 2014We can usually come up with new happenings and such with every fishing report. But this week we just can’t! The Bow continues to fish very well! Fisherman are happy, guides are happy, everyone is happy!
The fish continue to eat foam bugs on top, better than we would expect given all of the sunshine we have had. Couple of days last week were a little slower on dry fly eats but a slow day this year is around a dozen. Last year, that was a month’s worth of foam bug eats.
A small caddis pupa bead nymph or stonefly nymph fished under a foam bug has been pretty much a sure thing.
McKinnon`s road and launch area are open. Having said that, we ask that people think twice about using McKinnon’s when we see heavy rainfall. The road will not support rain and vehicles in its present state. Carseland is now open for public use, a nice surprise. Lower city launches and Policeman’s launches open.

The North Raven River Conservation Site, located southwest of Red Deer, boasts excellent angling opportunities for brown trout and brook trout, as well as northern pike and mountain whitefish.
Once a popular drinking spot for thirsty cattle, the North Raven River had become a barren landscape due to excessive trampling. After much dedication such as in-stream habitat improvements, off-site cattle watering systems and cattle exclusion fencing, this stream has been restored. It is thriving because of continued conservation efforts including land purchases of important headwater springs and habitat protection leases with caring landowners.

Fishing Reports-A Little More Detail
Bow River Report –July 14, 2014
The Bow is fishing very good. Even with the significant sun and heat over the last week it continues to fish well.
Evening Caddis has been good, especially above the Highwood. PMD’s are still around in decent numbers and if we get any cloud cover fish should look up to them.
Stoneflies are, as usual at this time, in full swing. Low light periods of the day offer the best dry fly action. Through the middle portion of the day, when the sun is high, throw a Stonefly nymph under the dry. This has been somewhat silly good, with lots of eats on the nymph and the odd eat on the dry.
Streamer fishing has been good as well.
If we get the cloud they are calling for at the end of the week the river should be amazing for dry flies and streamers.

Bow River Report –July 7, 2014
Things are definitely under way with the river now. Clarity is good, levels are good, all is good! As of this morning, we are at 190 cms.
Good numbers of PMD’s and Caddis, with fish eating them. A few Stonefly eats here and there. A Stonefly nymph is pretty much a sure thing right now and the Streamer fishing is pretty good as well.
All in all, a normal everyday decent early July fishing report. Unlike the last two years!
McKinnon`s road and launch area are open. Having said that, we ask that people think twice about using McKinnon’s when we see heavy rainfall. The road will not support rain and vehicles in its present state. Jansen’s is plugged with sand/mud and will be a few days before it dries out. Carseland will not open in 2014. City launches, and Policeman`s are OK.

Update To Fishing Report (Bow River)
Continuing the updates, the Bow is down to 208 cms this morning. Yesterday and the day before saw very good fishing. The fish seem to be in their normal, early July, agressive eating patterns. First time in a few years that runoff has gone like normal, and it's a little weird.
