Fishing Reports - May 13

Bow River Report – May 13, 2015

Fishing has gotten somewhat tougher in the last week to ten days on the river. Flows have been going up and down a bunch and cooler temperatures likely haven’t helped. Supposed to warmer for the latter part of the long weekend and into next week, which should help a lot.

There’s lots of bugs around, with Caddis showing up already, March Browns in good numbers, and BWO’s still around. There have been rising fish, just not in the numbers we had been seeing. One trend of this spring is that everything is early.

Nymphing has offered the most consistency, with Stonefly nymphs and small bead heads like Lightning Bugs working best.

A good portion of the Rainbows will be in the tribs to spawn right now, leaving primarily Brown Trout. Some very good news is that we have seen more decent sized Brown Trout (over 18”) in the last couple of months than we have seen for a while. Both species, Brown and rainbow, seem to have wintered well. They are in as good of shape as we have ever seen at this time of year. A good sign as we move into the core of the season.

All of the boat launches are now open for your floating enjoyment.
