Fishing Reports - August 31

Bow River Report – August 31, 2015

The deep nymphing has been kind of stupid (good) of late. San Juan patterns like Atomic Worm, Reeses Pieces, and Wire Worms rack up fish numbers like crazy right now. The fish we are seeing are long, fat, and hot!

Hopper fishing has been pretty good, but not every day and not necessarily all day. A good description would be “inconsistent”. Still a good number of Caddis around, but not too many fish looking up for them. Same with Tricos, but there are more Trico fish to be found lower down.

Streamer fishing continues to be good. White and Tan colored streamers with flash seem to be the best bet.

This weekend’s forecast is for cooler, wet weather. Likely see Pseudos and Baetis and maybe a few more rising fish to go along with them.

There’s starting to be a ton of Boatmen lower down on the river. That should get going in the next month as well.

Crowsnest River Report – August 31, 2015

The Crowsnest is low and clear, currently running at about 3 cms. Mornings and evening offer the best fishing with hoppers and ants. When it’s this low and clear it tends to get fairly technical. Fish with care and stealth and you’ll do better.

The St. Mary River and its tributaries remain closed to fishing until further notice.

We recommend that anglers play fish as quickly as possible, not taking the fish out of the water. Until things cool down a little please skip that fish photo and get them back on their way.

High Country River Report – August 31, 2015

All streams have reopened (except St. Mary and its tributaries) as of Friday, August 21. Hopefully the stream that remained open sees a few less people and get a little reprieve from the hordes.

Fishing in the high country this week was very good. For those who said the Highwood may never come back after the 2013 floods, you should go check it out. It’s fishing very good with big, heavy Cutts in good numbers.

We recommend that anglers play fish as quickly as possible, not taking the fish out of the water. Until things cool down a little please skip that fish photo and get them back on their way.

Hatches:  Green Drakes, Hoppers, Ants
