Far too many anglers are missing out on the awesome fishing that can happen in 

January! Ascension Bay is a ghost town with most lodges and guides, and we have 

had some of our BEST fishing of the season in January the last several years 

(other than El Nino in 2016). As a rule of thumb, you don’t often see the larger 

schools of permit like you do later in the spring and summer, but you do get 

your shots at solitary fish and smaller groups that are completely unpressured 

and happy to eat the fly. We also see and catch some of the largest permit of 

the season in January and February. Yes, there might be concerns about drawing 

the short straw with a cold front, but these events usually don’t last long, and 

odds are that the vast majority of January sees very mild temperatures and our 

typical southeasterly trade winds. The lack of activity on the Bay, the opportunities 

for the big boys, and limitless chances for bonefish, baby tarpon, and the best 

Snook fishing of the year make

Fishing Reports-September 21

Bow River Report –September 21, 2017

The weather in the last couple days has brought the BWOs on big time and there’s fish eating them!

A mid-afternoon text from a guide on Wednesday says “Most heads I’ve seen since the flood”.

There is also a lot of October Caddis kicking around so a big bug will work as well. Don’t be afraid to twitch and skate them a little.

As for the streamer and nymph fishing. other than a little dropper action using boatman type stuff under the big caddis, who cares! There’s rising fish and foam bug action out there people.

More and more Boatmen kicking around as well.

Crowsnest River Report – September 21, 2017

Low and clear. With this cooler weather one should expect some stellar BWO and Boatman fishing.

High Country River Report – September 21, 2017

The forestry closure south of Hwy #532 was lifted a couple days ago so you can now go back into the Livingston and Upper Oldman. There are still closures in Waterton Park and the South Castle.
