Fishing Reports-September 21

Bow River Report –September 21, 2017

The weather in the last couple days has brought the BWOs on big time and there’s fish eating them!

A mid-afternoon text from a guide on Wednesday says “Most heads I’ve seen since the flood”.

There is also a lot of October Caddis kicking around so a big bug will work as well. Don’t be afraid to twitch and skate them a little.

As for the streamer and nymph fishing. other than a little dropper action using boatman type stuff under the big caddis, who cares! There’s rising fish and foam bug action out there people.

More and more Boatmen kicking around as well.

Crowsnest River Report – September 21, 2017

Low and clear. With this cooler weather one should expect some stellar BWO and Boatman fishing.

DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS OR DITCHES!

High Country River Report – September 21, 2017

The forestry closure south of Hwy #532 was lifted a couple days ago so you can now go back into the Livingston and Upper Oldman. There are still closures in Waterton Park and the South Castle.

Fishing Reports - September 7

Bow River Report –September 7, 2017

Having some really good days on Hoppers of late. With the exception of a couple of days over the long weekend (likely due to big pressure changes and east winds) the foam bug fishing has been pretty darn good. In between the Hopper eats, there has been decent numbers of fish on the droppers.

Tricos have actually been heavier again over the last week after slowing down a bit a week ago.

Caddis are still around in decent numbers and there has been some good dry fly action in the evenings here and there.

Streamer fishing has not been stellar in the last little bit. It’s OK here and there, but not near as good as earlier.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the river is quite low. We are now down to right around 60 cms. Keep in mind that it will warm up faster with lower flow volumes so maybe forego the photograph and keep them in the water. Also, take a little extra time to make sure fish are fully revived before releasing.

There is still an advisory in place regarding low water levels and high water temperatures (even though things have cooled down on the Bow). This requests that anglers restrict angling activity to the early morning hours to minimize stress on fish.

Crowsnest River Report – September 7, 2017

The Crowsnest is flowing under 2 CMS right now. It’s still fishing OK, with the best fishing in the mornings and evenings. Make sure to take some light tippet.

The Crowsnest is accessible, even with the forestry closure. You must only use maintained parking areas. DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS OR DITCHES!

High Country River Report – September 7, 2017

As of Monday, September 4^th, there is a forestry closure in place south of highway #532 to the Montana border. This means that there is no access to the the Upper Oldman, Livingston, Dutch, Racehorse Creek areas. There is still access allowed on the Highwoood and points north (for the time being).
