Fish Ass Friday!

Our first instalment of Fish Ass Friday!

A lot of what we see on social media today are standard, run of the mill face and side shots of fish. Well, for those who truly appreciate the tail, anal, and caudal fins, we introduce F.A.F.

Every Friday, we will post photos of the piscatorial posterior side of nature. All species of fish will be featured, with nothing ahead of dorsal in evidence.

Our first! And for those who use it, go to our Facebook page on Fridays.

If you like the Fish Ass photo you will be entered for a prize draw.

And if you guess what species of fish it is in the comments you'll be entered in a draw for a second prize.

The World's Most Interesting Man

Mike Guinn continues his status as "the world's most interesting man". When faced with the rear quarter of his trailer frame breaking off, what does he do? The W.M.I.M absconds with a fence post, uses his anchor rope to tie everything up, and brings everyone home safely.

Fishing Reports - August 20

Bow River Report –August 20, 2014
Trico fishing has been coming along nicely to provide a perfect wa to use up a few hours of your morning.

Hopper/foam fly fishing has been pretty good. The hopper/dropper thing has been kind of inconsistent. At times you’ll get a bunch of eats on the nymph, but at other times hardly anything. The dry fly stuff has been good enough that most of our guides have been leaving the nymph off and just fishing dry.

Streamer fishing continues to be good.

Don’t forget, the Fish Creek boat launch is closed for about two weeks for repairs. All other downstream launches are open.

Hatches: Tricos, Caddis

Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.
Nymphs: Heavy Metal Worm, Atomic Worm, Tung Stud, B/H R/L Hares Ear, Tung Dart, Hotwire Caddis
Dry Flies: Bloom’s CDC Caddis, Spent Partridge Caddis, Silvey’s Edible Emerger, Chubby Chernobyl-Purple, Fat Albert, Two-Tone Para Ant,
Berrett’s Cricket, Morrish Hopper-Tan, Point Guard Hopper-Tan

Fly Boxes

There has been three customers in the last two days in the shop who lost a fly box with a LOT of flies inside.
Although it goes without saying it's best to hold on to your boxes and do up your zippers, you might want to write your name and phone number on your boxes in permanent marker. At least then you have the chance of a good samaritan saving you a bunch of money.

Fishing Reports - August 11

Bow River Report –August 11, 2014

The river got a couple of little flushes late last week thanks to some thunderstorms. That should get us through the rest of the summer without having to worry about water temperatures.

The Bow has fished a little more finicky during the last 3 or 4 days, not quite as good on the dry fly front as it had been. That should turn around now that there are a lot more Tricos. The caddis are still around in good numbers most evenings.

For nymphing, a Hopper-Dropper rig will work just fine. You might want to change it up and show the fish something different in the way of a foam bug. Try something more along the lines of a Cricket, Beetle, or Cranefly.

Streamer fishing has been good. The dry fly fishing was so good for so long a lot of people ignored the streamer fishing but if you give it a try, it’s pretty good.

Don’t forget, the Fish Creek boat launch closes on Saturday, august 16 for about two weeks for repairs. All other downstream launches are open.

Hatches: Tricos, Caddis

Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.

Fishing Reports - August 5

Bow River Report –August 5, 2014

Fishing has gotten better and better as the last week has progressed. Lots of dry fly action, Hopper-Dropper is working well, and streamer fishing has been good as well.
Tricos have made their appearance!

McKinnon`s road and launch area are open. Having said that, we ask that people think twice about using McKinnon’s when we see heavy rainfall. The road will not support rain and vehicles in its present state. Carseland is now open for public use, a nice surprise. Lower city launches and Policeman’s launches open.
Be careful taking out at Policeman’s!

Hatches: Tricos, Caddis, Stoneflies

Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.
