Winter Fly tying Schools

We now have first dates set for Winter Fly Tying Schools.
If you've been thinking of taking up fly tying, or someone you know wants to start, these are for you.
Gift certificates for the Fly Tying Schools 
are available as a great gift. 
 
Each School comprises five lessons, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on five consecutive Tuesday nights, for a total instruction of 10-12 hours. All lessons will take place in the shop, with a maximum enrollment in each school of seven students, so there is lots of chance for individual attention.
The tuition is $140 (plus GST) and each student will be responsible for supplying their own tools and materials during the course. All tools and materials are available at Country Pleasures. Enrollment is taken on a first-come first-served basis and a complete list of necessary tools and materials will be supplied to registrants at the time of registration.
During the School students will learn to tie nymphs, streamers and dry flies, including local favourites and new patterns such as the San Juan Worm, Bead Head Nymphs, C.D.C Caddis, Stimulators, and Clouser Minnows. All flies are chosen for their effectiveness in local waters as well as the techniques required for their tying. Join us for your introduction to this fascinating hobby. The Introductory Fly tying schools are instructed by Adam Rich, one of the more experienced and talented tiers in the area. Adam is also a patient and capable teacher.

Fly patterns covered include:
*Dry flies, nymphs, and streamers relevant to Alberta and Southeastern British Columbia
Tuition Cost
Tuition for the School is $140 (plus GST), payable at the time of registration.
Winter session 2017: Begins January 10, 2017.

Steelhead patterns, techniques and materials for tube flies, straight shanks, and standard hooks.

One of the fabulous things about fishing for B.C.'s wild steelhead are the animated and lively flies that seem to attract these feisty fish so regularly.
Join April Vokey of Fly Gal Ventures as she shares some of her favourite B.C. steelhead patterns, techniques and materials. You will learn how to use tube flies, straight shanks and standard hooks.

Join April Vokey of Fly Gal Ventures for a fun-filled evening of ladies only fly-tying as she helps to demystify general questions that intrigue many beginner fly-tyers.

Students are encouraged to bring their own tools, however, materials are provided and the use of necessary tools/equipment may be arranged with advance notice to the shop.
Gather around our comfortable tying table and observe, evaluate and conquer every tying step as April walks each student through the process. We’re aware that beginners learn at different rates and patient ‘one-on-one’ time ensures that no one gets “lost” at the table.
Each step is explained slowly and thoroughly, providing additional bits of information and alternative techniques along the way. Enjoy learning the steps of basic fly-tying on your first fly of the evening and then venture into your own creations as you proceed to complete a second. Each wrap will put you one step closer to stocking your fly box!

Saturday Morning Seminars

We decided to re-do this seminar. We had one back in December but a lot of people were stuck in a blizzard. Brent Piche will show his some of his beastly flies for Bull Trout. A popular seminar last year with some pretty cool tying techniques.

Saltwater Fly Tying School
Country Pleasures is pleased to offer a fly tying school focusing solely on saltwater patterns and the techniques and materials to tie them. This course is designed for intermediate to expert tiers. During the School students will learn to flies for Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, Trevally, Barracuda, as well as Shark. All flies are chosen for their effectiveness during past trips as well as the techniques required for their tying. Students will receive instruction on several different techniques including tying with epoxies, synthetics, flashes, etc.
