Jeff Thomson and Kevin Peterson will show their favorite patterns for the
Bow. Comprehensive seminar outlining how, when, and where to fish
these patterns.
January 24 - **Stillwater Secrets with Brent Schlenker**

We have a ton of people come into the shop and say they don’t really
get streamer fishing and don’t do well at it. This seminar, presented by
Mike Gifford, will show you how to do it properly. Techniques, gear, and
flies for wade or drift fishing.
February 7 - Missouri River Primer
The Missouri River offers some great fishing within a fairly reasonable
distance as an alternative to our fisheries. Blair Yerxa spends a lot of
time on the “Mo”. Blair will outline seasons, flies, gear, times to go,
everything you need to know to fish the Mo.
February 14 - Family Day Weekend- No Seminar
February 21 - Spey Explained
Terry Antoniuk and Kelly Robertson cover everything Spey. Keeping it
simple, they explain rods, reels, lines, and tips. Ideal seminar for those
wanting to give it a try as well as those who just need someone to make
sense of it all.

Phil shows everything you need to know to be successful fishing stillwaters.
Patterns, techniques, you name it. Better get here early for this one.
March 7 - Getting To The Roots Of Roosters

know. Come and check out his effective and absolutely beautifully tied
flies for these fish.
March 14 - Flats Fishing Hot Points
Mike Gifford will go through his favorite flies for Bonefish, Tarpon,
Snook, and Permit. He will also explain proper gear and leader setups
for all of these species and outline some better strategies for catching
the main four flats species.

Kevin Peterson shows us everything there is to know about nymphing in
this part of the world.
March 28 - **Phil Rowley-Bugs for Stillwater**

Fishing Reports - October 16
Bow River Report –October 16, 2014
The Boatman stuff has been getting a bunch better over the last week. Although a lot of people fish these as a dropper rig or under an indicator, try fishing the Boatman pattern by itself or behind a small Clouser. Remember, short, twitching strips with the Boatmen and slower banks and inside seams are often best.
Finally have some cloud cover over the last couple of days, which provided a few more bugs. Hopefully our fall Baetis get rolling a little better. Still getting eats on October Caddis patterns. One shop customer had his best “hopper” day of the year last week with a whole bunch of fish on small foam hopper patterns.
Heavier nymph rigs with San Juan Worms, etc. continue to beat the tar out of them. There have been people drifting who have hooked 40+ fish in a day on these rigs of late.
Hatches: October Caddis, Pseudos (tiny little BWO), Baetis (saner size of BWO), Water Boatman
Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.
Nymphs: Heavy Metal Worm, Atomic Worm, Tung Stud, B/H R/L Hares Ear, Tung Dart, Copper John-Black, Peacock Water Boatman
Dry Flies: Morrish October Caddis, Two-Tone Para Ant, Parachute Adams
Crowsnest River Report – October 16, 2014
Unfortunately, all reports we have had from the Crow over the last week have indicated very tough fishing. The Crow usually gets very “techie” at this time but it sounds like it’s downright hard.
Try doing some sight fishing on the slower runs and tailouts. If you spot fish, throw a small Boatman pattern, it can often be very effective.
Hatches: BWO’s, Water Boatmen.
Streamers: Bead Crystal Bugger, Crystal Bugger-Olive, Kiwi Muddler
Nymphs: B/H R/L Hares Ear, B/H Pheasant Tail, Copper John, Peacock Boatman.
Dries: JC Special, Ants, Beetles, Parachute Adams
High Country River Report – October 16, 2014
The countdown is on! Only 16 days left before the high country streams close. The weather forecast looks like it is going be perfect for fishing right through to the end.
Oh, and pretty much everything from the Sheep to the Oldman (and everything in between) has been fishing really good.
Hatches: BWO’s, Ants, Beetles.
Streamers: Sleech-Olive, Silveys Sculpin Leech-Tan, Party Boy-Pink, Circus Peanut-White
Nymphs: B/H R/L Hares Ear, B/H Pheasant Tail, Copper John
Dries: Parachute Adams, Neversink Caddis, JC Special, Ants.

Fishing Reports - October 8
Bow River Report –October 8, 2014
With the Thanksgiving weekend approaching, the weatherman has given us a pretty good gift if he’s right. Fishing has been pretty decent. Not as many rising fish as we would like to see but there’s a few out there. Tons of Boatmen kicking around and the fishing on them has been pretty good for the most part.
Quite a few October Caddis kicking around, mostly towards Carseland and people have been getting the odd eat on top with them.
If you’re so inclined the deep rig San Juan Worm setups have been killing them of late. If you want to get tugged on (a lot) then this is for you.
Better get out there, the clock is winding down on nice weather.
Hatches: October Caddis, Pseudos (tiny little BWO), Baetis (saner size of BWO), Water Boatman
Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.
Nymphs: Heavy Metal Worm, Atomic Worm, Tung Stud, B/H R/L Hares Ear, Tung Dart, Copper John-Black, Peacock Water Boatman
Dry Flies: Morrish October Caddis, Two-Tone Para Ant, Parachute Adams
Crowsnest River Report – October 8, 2014
The Crowsnest is down to a very usual 4 cms and clear. Typical September technical fishing is on the menu for anglers who enjoy that.
Some cool fishing is available in the slower runs and tailouts at this time of year with Boatmen patterns, either fished blind or to sighted fish.
Hatches: BWO’s, Ants, Beetles, Water Boatmen.
Streamers: Bead Crystal Bugger, Crystal Bugger-Olive, Kiwi Muddler
Nymphs: B/H R/L Hares Ear, B/H Pheasant Tail, Copper John, Peacock Boatman.
Dries: R/L Neversink Caddis, JC Special, Ants, Beetles, Parachute Adams
High Country River Report – October 8, 2014
Most of the high country stuff has rebounded from the short burst of winter in September. Reports of decent dry fly fishing have been coming out of the hills. Not near as busy up there now either. Pretty soon it will be done for the season, get out there!

Congrats to Abe House and Greg Romeskie as winners for last week's F.A.F. draws. It was a tougher one for most to guess the species but three (that's right, only three) that guessed Bluefin Trevally got their name in the draw.
Greg is a second time winner now.

The last week was a little devoid of insect hatches on a number of days, offering a lot less dry fly fishing. The last couple of days there have been more bugs, but more importantly, a bunch more rising fish. This weekend’s weather should bring on a lot more BWO mayflies.
Water Boatman numbers are way up in the last week, especially below McKinnon’s.
McKinnons Flats access is currently closed for road repairs. It is expected to re-open at the end of this week.
Hatches: Caddis, Pseudos (tiny little BWO), Baetis (saner size of BWO), Water Boatman

High Country River Report – September 24, 2014
A lot of the high country streams are still running a little high but have at least cleared up. Streams like Racehorse are fairly low, where the Oldman and Livingstone are still a little high. The cooler water from snowmelt hasn’t helped the dry fly fishing a bunch but there is still some decent fall fishing to be had.

Fishing Reports-September 18
Bow River Report –September 18, 2014
Other than an unexplained 60 cms bump at the end of last week, the river stayed in great shape after the week of winter. Below the Highwood has degraded since the weekend. It’s still fishable down there, it’s just down to about 18” visibility.
There have been good numbers of rising fish on the days with cloud, not as many on the sunny days. Kind of the usual deal.
Water Boatmen are showing up in a big way in the lower stretches. This is one of our favorite hatches/events every year.
Fish Creek launch is closed until around September 19 for repairs. McKinnon’s road will be closed to ALL access starting September 22 for road repairs. Sounds like it will be about a week.
Hatches: Caddis, Pseudos (tiny little BWO), Baetis (saner size of BWO)
Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.
Nymphs: Heavy Metal Worm, Atomic Worm, Tung Stud, B/H R/L Hares Ear, Tung Dart, Copper John-Black, Peacock Water Boatman
Dry Flies: Bloom’s CDC Caddis, Spent Partridge Caddis, Silvey’s Edible Emerger, Fat Albert, Two-Tone Para Ant, Berrett’s Cricket, Morrish Hopper-Tan, Point Guard Hopper-Tan, Parachute Adams
Crowsnest River Report – September 18, 2014
The Crow is fishable after the snow and rain. It did not see near as much effect from last week’s snow.

High Country River Report – September 18, 2014
High country streams still dropping and clearing after large snowfall amounts in the headwaters. Many should be back into fishing shape for this weekend.

Fishing Reports-September 11
Bow River Report –September 11, 2014
We have to admit, none of us felt the compulsion to fish the last couple of days. However, we did send some folks who really wanted to fish to a couple likely dry fly spots. They found lots of fish rising on BWO mayflies every afternoon this week.
Even after the sudden pulse of winter, the river will likely continue to fish just fine. We have probably seen the last of the Tricos but if it warms up like they say, hoppers should fish OK again.
Water Boatmen are showing up in a big way in the lower stretches. This is one of our favorite hatches/events every year.
Long story short….lots of good fishing yet to come before winter sets in.
Fish Creek launch is closed until around September 19 for repairs. And with the rain of yesterday and today, you might want to avoid McKinnon’s for a day or so.
Hatches: Caddis, Pseudos (tiny little BWO), Baetis (saner size of BWO)
Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, Silvey’s Scuplin Leech-Olive/Black/White Head, Love Bunny, Circus Peanut.
Nymphs: Heavy Metal Worm, Atomic Worm, Tung Stud, B/H R/L Hares Ear, Tung Dart, Copper John-Black, Peacock Water Boatman
Dry Flies: Bloom’s CDC Caddis, Spent Partridge Caddis, Silvey’s Edible Emerger, Fat Albert, Two-Tone Para Ant, Berrett’s Cricket, Morrish Hopper-Tan, Point Guard Hopper-Tan, Parachute Adams
Crowsnest River Report – September 11, 2014
The Crow is back down to just under 5 cms, after jumping up pretty good last week after rain. With nice weather forecast for a while fishing down there should be good.
Hatches: BWO’s, Caddis, Ants, Beetles, Hoppers
Streamers: Bead Crystal Bugger, Crystal Bugger-Olive, Kiwi MuddlerNymphs: B/H R/L Hares Ear, B/H Pheasant Tail, Copper John
Dries: R/L Neversink Caddis, JC Special, Ants, Beetles, Morrish Hopper,
Point Guard Hopper-Tan, Parachute Adams
High Country River Report – September 11, 2014
Might not be a bad idea to give the high country a few days to return to more normal fall conditions. With average and above average temperatures forecast for next week they’ll start to fish just fine.
Some of the streams got a lot of snow in their headwaters so if it warms up quick there might be a little pulse of dirty water. Best to check with us before heading out.

Fishing Reports-September 3
Bow River Report –September 3, 2014
Decent numbers of rising fish in the last few days on Tricos, Caddis , and BWO’s.
Guided boats that have gone with San Juan Worm rigs have caught a lot of fish in the last week so if you want to get tugged a bunch, that’s the ticket.
Still getting a good number of eats on the Hoppers. Lots of refusals as well, good idea to try something a little different like a big ant, beetle, or cricket.
Fish Creek launch is closed until around September 15 for repairs. And with the rain of yesterday and today, you might want to avoid McKinnon’s for a day or so.

Dry Flies: Bloom’s CDC Caddis, Spent Partridge Caddis, Silvey’s Edible Emerger, Fat Albert, Two-Tone Para Ant, Berrett’s Cricket, Morrish Hopper-Tan, Point Guard Hopper-Tan
Crowsnest River Report – September 3, 2014
Crow is pretty typical for early September. A lot more technical fishing but if that’s what you like you can have a lot of fun.
Hatches: Caddis, Ants, Beetles, Hoppers
Streamers: Bead Crystal Bugger, Crystal Bugger-Olive, Kiwi Muddler

High Country River Report – September 3, 2014
Given the rainfall amounts they are calling for in the southwest corner of the province today, it will likely be the weekend before a lot of the high country streams get back into shape again. Don’t worry, it’s supposed to get nice again on Thursday so they’ll be fine in a day or two.

Fish Ass Friday!
Our first instalment of Fish Ass Friday!
A lot of what we see on social media today are standard, run of the mill face and side shots of fish. Well, for those who truly appreciate the tail, anal, and caudal fins, we introduce F.A.F.
Every Friday, we will post photos of the piscatorial posterior side of nature. All species of fish will be featured, with nothing ahead of dorsal in evidence.
Our first! And for those who use it, go to our Facebook page on Fridays.
If you like the Fish Ass photo you will be entered for a prize draw.
And if you guess what species of fish it is in the comments you'll be entered in a draw for a second prize.
