Bow River Report –April 21, 2014
With the warmer weather we have seen some flushes of dirtier water over the last couple of weeks. Currently, the river has some color but is certainly fishable.
Nymphs and Streamers continue to give the best success, but there have been more bugs around of late with a few rising fish here and there.
There have been a number of very nice, healthy Brown trout caught of late, which is great news. Kev was out the other day and saw a couple of two foot class fish while fishing a streamer.
Ice is still a factor lower down on the river. McKinnon`s road and launch area are in horrible shape and they say Carseland will not open in 2014. City launches and Policeman`s are OK.
Hatches: Midges, BWO`s
Streamers: Clouser-Brown/White, Geek Leech-Purple, ¼ Pound Bugger-Olive
Nymphs: G/B Werminator, Wire Worm, Atomic Worm, WMD Stone-Dark,
Jimmy Legs
Dry Flies: Film Critic-BWO, CDC Griffith`s Gnat.
Crowsnest River Report – April 21, 2014
The Crow got a good punch of dirty water a couple of weeks ago but is fishable now. This has always been a favorite time to head to the Crow. Can offer the first dry fly fishing of the season, some sight fishing, etc. to blow off the cobwebs.
Check your regs for sectional closures on the Crow right now.
The Oldman, downstream of Waldron Bridge is open and fishable.
Hatches: Midges, BWO`s
Streamers: Bead Crystal Bugger, Jawbreaker
Nymphs: Jimmy Legs, Rock`n`Roller Stone, G/B R/L Hares Ear, WMD Stone.
Dries: Film Critic-BWO, BWO Thorax, Griffith`s Gnat.
