Bow
River Report – May 4, 2016
River levels have
been stable between 70 and 80 cms since the weekend, are welcome reprieve from
last week’s yo-yo flows.
With this unusually
warm weather the caddis are getting rolling. Unfortunately, this might be the
end of the BWO and March Brown stuff unless we get some cloudy, cooler weather.
The dry fly
fishing, on the more common sunny days, has been right at the end of the evening.
Normally the last 60-90 minutes of reasonable light.
Nymphing continues
to be good, if you’re getting to the fish in the deeper runs.
Streamer fishing
has been pretty good as well….especially below McKinnons.
Hatches:
Caddis, March Browns
Dry Flies: Bloom’s Parachute Caddis, Better Foam Caddis,
Jimmy Legs, B/H Pheasant Tail
Streamers:
Geek Leech, Gartside Leech, Clouser Minnows.
Crowsnest
River Report – May 4, 2016
Water clarity on the Crow has held out
fine. About 3 feet at East Hillcrest yesterday. On the really warm days you’ll
likely find visibility degrades in the afternoons. With this weather don’t be
surprised if Salmonflies are early.
Don’t be afraid of the Crow at this time of
year if it’s a little dirty. If there isn’t anything happening on top, use a
big stonefly nymph. It can be very good.
Sectional closures now in place until June
16, 2016. Check your regs.
Hatches: Skwalas, March Browns, BWOs
Dries: Rogue River
Skwala, Low Rider Skwala, X Body Parachute-BWO,
Trinas Etha wing Emerger-BWO, March
Brown parachute
B/H Pheasant Tail
Streamers: Gartside Leech, C/H R/L Bow River Bugger
High Country River Report – May 4, 2016
