Fishing Reports - July 27

Bow River Report –July 27, 2017

We are still seeing some great fish being caught on the Bow. This is certainly the best big Brown trout year since 2012 but with river levels now down to just over 100 CMS and this incessant heat we all need to be aware of water temperatures.

The Bow River monitoring station (below Carseland) has registered temps over 20 C twice in the last two weeks and if it wasn’t for cooler nights we would be in a lot worse shape. With the forecast temperatures over the foreseeable future, maybe restrict your fishing to early morning, no later than 2 PM.

Streamer fishing continues to be good and nymphing a small leech pattern under and indicator or foam fly has been deadly.

There is an advisory in place regarding low water levels and high water temperatures. This requests that anglers restrict angling activity to the early morning hours to minimize stress on fish.

Hatches:  Caddis, Tricos

Dry Flies:  Berrett’s Brown Leg Golden Stone, Chubby Chernobyl, CDC Caddis,
                 Spent Partridge Caddis

Streamers:  Skiddish Smolt, Kreelex Minnow, Bow River Bugger

Crowsnest River Report – July 27, 2017
