Bow
River Report –August 3, 2017
Mother Nature has given us a little
reprieve over the last few days with much cooler temperatures. Quite possibly a
“Matrix” level dodging of the bullet.
Water temperatures have lowered about 1.5
degrees Celsius at Carseland. This is mighty fine as they were getting a touch
high this past weekend. With the water levels dropping significantly in the
last 10 days, the river is far less resilient to those extreme high temperatures.
Big news is that we have been getting some
fish on hoppers in the last week. We haven’t had that in a report for a couple
years. Try hanging a small leech pattern under the hopper.
Hopefully, with our next warm up, we will
start to see some fish rising to Tricos.
There is still an advisory in place
regarding low water levels and high water temperatures. This requests that
anglers restrict angling activity to the early morning hours to minimize stress
on fish.
Hatches:

River Report – August 3, 2017
The Crow is very low, running at just over
3 CMS. It is, however, fishing very well. Given the conditions, maybe just
leave it alone after about 2 PM on the hot days.
Please note, there is an advisory in place
regarding low water levels and high water temperatures. This requests that
anglers restrict angling activity to the early morning hours to minimize stress
on fish.
Hatches: PMD’s, Caddis
Dries: Yeager’s
Foam Caddis, PMD Helen Keller, X-Body Parachute-PMD,
Film Critic-PMD
Streamers: Silvey’s Sculpin Leech-Blk/Olv/Wht., Circus Peanut.
High Country River Report – August 3, 2017
The high country has been fishing very
well. As you move higher, the water temps remain cooler but everything is
getting extremely low. Lower stretches of these rivers will warm up if we get
another heat wave so keep that in mind and maybe refrain during the late
afternoon and early evening until things cool down.
Also, remember that Bull Trout have very
low tolerance to environmental anomalies (like elevated water temperatures) so
be careful with them!
Please note there is an advisory in place
regarding low water levels and high water temperatures. This requests that
anglers restrict angling activity to the early morning hours to minimize stress
on fish.
