Bow
River Report –August 24, 2017
Still getting some decent Hopper fishing on
the river. Although early this week was
tougher. In between the Hopper eats, there has been decent numbers of fish on
the droppers.
Tricos seem to be slowing down somewhat. What
used to be an August-early September hatch now seems to be a mid-July to
mid-August hatch.
Caddis are still around in decent numbers
and there has been some good dry fly action in the evenings here and there.
In case you hadn’t noticed, the river is quite
low. We are now down to right around 60 cms. Keep in mind that it will warm up
faster with lower flow volumes so maybe forego the photograph and keep them in
the water. Also, take a little extra time to make sure fish are fully revived
before releasing.
There is still an advisory in place
regarding low water levels and high water temperatures (even though things have
cooled down on the Bow). This requests that anglers restrict angling activity
to the early morning hours to minimize stress on fish.

Crowsnest
River Report – August 24, 2017
The Crowsnest is at skeletal levels of low
water right now. It’s still fishing pretty well, mostly in the morning and late
evening. Given the conditions, maybe just leave it alone after about 2 PM on
the hot days. When it gets this low, some of the fishing can be very good but
very technical.
Please note, there is an advisory in place
regarding low water levels and high water temperatures. This requests that
anglers restrict angling activity to the early morning hours to minimize stress
on fish.
Hatches: Caddis, Hoppers, Ants
Dries: Yeager’s
Foam Caddis, Film Critic-PMD, Morrish Hopper,
Quigleys Flag Ant, Point Guard Hopper
High Country River Report – August 24, 2017
The high country has been fishing very
well. As you move higher, the water temps remain cooler but everything is
getting extremely low. Lower stretches of these rivers will warm up if we get
another heat wave so keep that in mind and maybe refrain during the late
afternoon and early evening until things cool down.
Also, remember that Bull Trout have very
low tolerance to environmental anomalies (like elevated water temperatures) so
be careful with them!
Please note there is an advisory in place
regarding low water levels and high water temperatures. This requests that
anglers restrict angling activity to the early morning hours to minimize stress
on fish.
Hatches:
Caddis, PMD’s, Green Drakes, Terrestrials
Dries: Film
Critic-Green Drake, Trina’s Carnage Green Drake, Neversink Caddis,
Helen Keller-PMD, Film Critic-PMD,
Point Guard Hopper,
Quigleys Flag Ant
