Fishing Reports - October 8

Bow River Report – October 8, 2015

As we approach the Thanksgiving long weekend the fishing on the Bow continues to be good. The fish coming to hand are heavy and hot! We can`t remember a time when the fish in the river have been as universally chunky like they are this year. One fish caught with Adam Rich, one of our guides, this past week actually registered on a Babine River Steelhead weight chart. They have massive girth right now.

Been picking up some nice Brown Trout, that are obviously moving around prior to spawning. Having said that, we hope everyone will show respect and not target fish in or around redds.

One item of note, there`s been a few more heads around late in the day. Not just the little ``dinks``, but some good sized fish. Look around as the light is dropping. They haven`t always been in their regular spots, a lot of them have been a bit more outside (sometimes 40 or 50 feet from the bank). Likely a residual effect of low water/warm water earlier this year. Just not as many fish tucked up along the banks.

For those who really want to get tugged, the deep nymphing routine with Worm patterns has been mind blowing. Deep and slow is the ticket, and the fish being caught are kind of big.

Remember, the clock is ticking, don`t put off a day`s fishing now when winter is coming. Especially when it`s fishing this good.

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Some good fishing for rising fish on BWO’s. Few Boatmen kicking around as well. Very low and clear. The few reports I have had in the last week indicate a few hours of decent fishing (on dries) with the remainder of the day a little tough.

High Country River Report – October 8, 2015

For the most part, fishing in the high country has been quite good. Like every year at this time, if the weather is even slightly poor or unstable, the fishing will be tough. But when the weather is nice, the fishing is good.

Only a coupleweeks left before the east slope streams close, so if you get the chance you should go fishing

Not sure how many will actually pay attention to this, but the Bull Trout do spawn at this time of year. Maybe a good idea to leave them alone. Also watch where you’re wading.

Hatches:  Ants, BWO’s
