Fishing Reports - June 2

Bow River Report – June 2, 2016

Normally we would be right in the thick of runoff right about now. Doesn’t look like we are going to get much in the way of high water. River levels have been dropping slowly from a peak of only 130 CMS, which is what we normally see sometime in August. Good news is, if you feel like going fishing the river is in very fishable shape.

Dry fly fishing has been pretty reliable late in the evenings on caddis. Been getting a few fish up on foam bugs/stoneflies but that’s certainly not consistent.

Stonefly nymphs continue to work better as the nymphs become more active. A small caddis pupa has been working great as well.

Streamer fishing has been bouncing back and forth between great and mediocre. Guided clients last Friday had one of the better streamer days anyone will ver have and then the next day streamer fishing was fair at best. With more stable, dropping flows that might get more consistent.

Sheep and Highwood improve in clarity every day and, because of their low flow volume, will have little effect on the Bow below the Highwood confluence.

If you are using Glenmore access, please do not drive upstream of the bridge. Launch downstream of the bridge. Otherwise we may lose this access permanently (the city is grumpy about it and that would suck!). That, and they are now fining people for it.

Crowsnest River Report – June 2, 2016

Conditions continue to hold at awesome on the Crow. Visibility at East Hillcrest of around 3 feet, with flow volumes of 8.5 CMS.

Salmonfly patterns, both dry and nymphs, are working great right now.

Don’t be afraid of the Crow at this time of year if it’s a little dirty. It can be very good.
