More Steelhead Tying: Brent's Jackalope Leech

Here's a quick tube leech that is one of Brents favourite. Using a small tube gives you the ease of placing your hook distance by using a simple non-slip loop knot.

Tube: 3/32 Tube
Body: Blue Artic Fox
Tail: Black Rabbit
Flash: Blue Flashabou
Hackle: Blue Schlappen & Blue Guinea
Eyes: Real Eyes 3/32
Head: Pink Ice Dub

A really good all around steelhead bug.

Back From The ???? River-Part Three

So, the goal of the trip up was to try and get Maureen her first Steelhead. A task accomplished on the third day after a few hooked and lost fish.

Many, many, many Brownie Points re-earned by yours truly.

A trail normally accessible by vehicle turned into a difficult task to hike with all of the collapsed Alders. They don't seem to get this much snow very often.

A nice, clean, bright Buck.

Chunky Hen.

Stay tuned for further photos.......

Back From The ????-Part Two

So we headed out for five and a half days of fishing in our trusty Super Duty......

Up to the ???? River, about a 90 minute drive from ????. What would normally look like this......
Looked like this! Over the next 5 days we got about 2 feet of accumulated snow on the Upper ?????.

A couple of mornings mid-week were a little adventure filled, with a ton of downed trees blocking main roads, spur roads, and trails. We spent a little time for two of our mornings doing a little "tree skidding" to clear our way.

A new pathway created with saw, rope, tow hooks and 4 X 4!
We did, however get a fair amount of fishing in.

Even with seriously dropping water temperatures and levels we managed to stick a few Steelhead here and there.

One of my Intruders that I actually hung in an Alder on purpose for a photo. All others in assorted Alders somewhat accidental.

Typical run on the ????.

Devotion?

Last May on my spring steelhead trip, one of the rivers we ventured up had a bit of a problem near the bottom of the river, there was a very, very old tree (actually many trees) that had interlocked themselves into the river, with no way around it. We managed to get around it on the way up (a story i cannot tell here, for fear of my mother imploding if she ever heard of it), but had to find a way down on the way home

After a good 2 hours with the chainsaw, and virtually no progress, we this is what we resorted to...Gotta love UHMW! We did this for another 4 days (both in and out), and only got stuck once!

Oh, and it was totally worth it!
